Well, here we are again! We’re at the end of September and about to roll into October. I don’t know about you, but this year has just flown by. You all know what that means. It’s the mad dash to get those WIPs completed not to mention a LOT of new products in time to sell or gift give for the holiday season. I’ve been banging out beanies of all shapes and sizes. I’ve also got a great pattern that works up super quick. It’s worked in the round and in a continuous spiral. You can literally watch TV and whip out this beanie in a flash!
My alma mater is Louisiana State University…GEAUX TIGERS! This was an order for a fella I went to high school with back in the day. (just a couple of years…LOL!)
The Mindless HDC Beanie
I personally use I Love This Yarn worsted weight yarn, but any medium worsted weight yarn such as Red Heart would be fine.
The colors I used for the beanies pictured are ILTY Grape and ILTY Sungold.
Use an I / 5.5mm crochet hook
You’ll also need a pair of scissors, stitch marker, tapestry needle and a 2 – 1/2″ / 65mm pom-pom maker (green one by Clover).
Rnd – round
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet

Rnd 8-15 – hdc in each st around – 56
Add on sungold yarn
Rnd 16-19 – hdc in each st around – 56
Add on grape yarn
Rnd 20-21 – hdc in each st around – 56
Rnd 22 – ch1, sc in same st then sc in each st all the way around – 56
Fasten off then weave the ends in.
Using 65mm pom pom maker, wind both grape and sungold yarn around arch, close arch and do the other side. With arches closed, cut yarn beginning at the gap between arches taking care not to open the arches. Place yarn to tie pom-pom in place. Tie firmly with a double knot leaving 2 long ends. Gently open one arch at a time. Remove pom-pom and fluff to shape. Use scissors to cut loose ends and shape. Thread ends through the top of beanie. Double knot in place. Fluff pom.
To affix patches, I use Aleene’s Fabric Fusion permanent fabric adhesive. Great stuff!
